Here at Honolulu Coffee, we are so passionate when sourcing local premium ingredients. We feel that taking the time in our selection of ingredients always results in the ability to elevate the products that we make to an exceptional level.
To celebrate the day where everyone is a “wee little bit Irish”, we wanted to create a simple, festive, and downright delicious cocktail for you all to try to recreate in your own home kitchen and home bars: Hawaiian Irish Coffee!
WHAT MAKES THIS A HAWAIIAN IRISH COFFEE?
The process is simple, and the results are enough to cheers all of your best mates about. The key is that every item in this craft cocktail is a thoughtfully made product. From the locally made Kō Hana Agricole Rum, to the locally milled raw sugar from Maui, to the freshly grown vanilla bean from the North Shores of Oahu, and of course, our very own award winning Kona Estate Coffee.
Each ingredient shares a story of being deeply rooted in the ‘Āina, or the land.
Terroir is a French term often used to describe the environmental factors that affect a growing crop such as sugar cane for rum and coffee trees, but is most commonly known for describing wine regions, among other crops. Using ingredients that are all paired together from the same growing region is a unique thought we had when crafting this recipe.
Irish coffee is traditionally made with whisky and sweetened coffee finished with whipped cream. We used those principles but kicked it up a bit. We swapped out the traditional Irish whiskey for the beautifully balance Koho, Kō Hana Agricole Rum. Every varietal of their heirloom sugar cane has a story and a flavor profile unique all in its own. That is something that the distillers at Kō Hana have mastered. Their Hawaiian Agricole Rum is distilled from native Hawaiian sugar cane, giving it an impressive foundation for this cocktail.
We then brewed a freshly made Chemex or hand brew of our award winning Kona Estate Coffee. Kona Estate Selection is a microlot of the best coffee harvested this season. Experience the unique flavors of lilikoi, dark chocolate, and raw honey.
We are always looking for premier micro-lots of small coffees to share with the coffee enthusiast in you. These seasonal coffees show the full range of the unique, local coffees that Hawaii has to offer.
